Happy Groundhog Day: Oh How the Little Rat Mocks Me!

Today, my friends, is Groundhog's Day. The day which we people of the Northern climates roll our eyes, but secretly tune in to watch. The legend says if the little rat sees his shadow then there will be six more weeks of winter weather. If not, then there will be an early spring.

Even though we tune in, even though we secretly hope, we don't really care what the rat sees because we know that no matter what he says we're in for at least 6 more weeks, regardless. Big fat gloomy sigh...

As much as I love winter and as much as it begins with me exclaiming how beautiful the snow covered trees are and how I'm SO blessed to live in this winter wonderland, by Februray it has quickly soured and become more of a barren wasteland.

After months of spinning tires, sliding cars, ice, cold, cooped up in my TINY condo and SNOTTY FREAKING NOSE AFTER SNOTTY FREAKING NOSE I am ready to open my windows!

So, please Punxsutawney Phil, don't be a little rat bastard and see your shadow because man I need me some rays!

If you're like my husband and I, you like to have excuses to celebrate strange obscure holidays, or celebrate them in strange new ways. So we decided as a family tradition that each year on Groundhogs Day we will watch...you got it

And have a little picnic on the floor.

Because dear Jimmy Eat World has to work tonight, the whole Sassy family celebrated early. We ate cheese, crackers and summer sausage with Sparkling Grape Juice. It was a lot of fun and you have to admit this movie is GREAT!

Come on, the journey Phil takes from using the repeating day to get into bed with Andie MacDowell's charecter to actaully become a decent guy is great! This movie has given us the pathetic inspiring dream to one day go to Punxsutawney for Ground Hog's Day. Anyone else weird like us?

So everyone stay warm, have fun. If you're in a warmer climate send me a link to you basking and go watch Ground Hogs Day! Oh, and Ashlee, I included your head on our snowmen because I think you feel my pain.

What's that? You want to comment? Just click on the itty-bitty words below that say "Gimme Sugar". Can you see them? Good. We can't wait to chat with you.

I love my new snowman body! I'm sexy! :0)
I do feel your pain. It has been snowing down on us relentlessly all week. It did finally let up yesterday, but roads have been closed, and schools {thankfully not ours}, etc. etc. etc. Sigh.

Did I mention I hate snow?

Looks like P.Phil gave you a bad report this morning. However, our little Wisconsin groundhog says Spring is just around the corner; you could always move...

Thanks so much for commenting on my blog today! I loved hearing that someone else says that! Please ask your dad where he got it from; I'd love to know, since my mom doesn't remember. I have never heard of a single other person who says "Half-Past Kissin' Time..." and it warms my heart to know your dad says that to you. I tried Googling it once, and the only thing I found is song lyrics from way back when (with no music, unfortunately.) Tell me more! Is your dad a character, too?

Actually I think it was about 70 degrees here today with more of the same tomorrow. The winters here anen't too bad and I usually only pull out my winter coat a handful of times. It's the summers that are a killer...literally...people around here without a/c die every summer, it's horrible! Anyway, sending warm thoughts your way!

Ha! I've been explaining to my 6 year old all week that Groundhog Day is NOT a gift giving holiday!

I don't think it would matter what the Groundhog did. This is Northern Michigan. It is going to be cold and gray forever. Blah.

I'm learning to live with the doldrums of winter. Not liking it but living with it.

I'm looking forward to Spring and Summer myself, and we haven't had any *real* snow yet (I really hope I didn't just jinx myself!)!
