Thursday Thin-down: Breaking past the 10th lb


Finally....finally....FINALLY I broke past my 10 lbs of weight lost. I had been hovering, going up a .5 lb and down 1 lbs for about 3 weeks. It was really frustrating me. Truthfully, it wasn't that the system wasn't working, it was that I (that is bolded, underlined and italicized just so everyone can see how much blame I'm accepting here) wasn't working. I knew how to do this, but I couldn't seem to keep it together with all the traveling, the holidays and the festivals in town.

And when I say festival, I mean a week long onslaught of over 500,000 tourist we fondly call "Fudgies" (because they always buy fudge) swooping into town and turning it into a high traffic Chicago neighborhood overnight. It really is quite something. And when I say festival, I really mean festival food. Like cherry pie, corn dogs, ice cream and elephant ears the size of a pizza! I'm not kidding, THE SIZE OF A PIZZA!

You try walking around holding onto freshly friend doughy goodness covered with cinnamon and sugar without taking little bites here and there. So yes, I partook of elephant ears on two occasions, but I took note of it and wrote it down.

In WW you have to count everything and so I did eat that stuff but I wrote it down. And this week I lost 2 lbs. The biggest thing I did, which I haven't at all been diligent about, is I've written down everything that went into my mouth. Now, aside from that day I did this:

Taken from my journal
Dinner: Chicken Fajitas
3 corn tortillas
Chicken Fajitas
Rice and Beans
Tortilla Chips
Guacamole
1 small piece of Cheese Cake
Big fat guess of 30? All my weekly points? No clue, but it's ok, I will run tomorrow.

I did very well. I had my one pig out day, but it was actually the night after I weighed in and the rest of the week looked more like this.

Breakfast:
1/2 English muffin
Morning Star Veggie Sausage
Lunch:
Roll up: Flat-out bread with Hummus (did you know I eat my weight in hummus every week?), lettuce carrots and thin slice turkey meat
100 cal pack of Popcorn (helps fill me up)

Dinner:
BBQ Chicken Leg (big one)
Salad with croutons and Light Ranch Dressing

Dessert:
Weight Watchers Cookie Dough Ice Cream Sundae. These are really yummy.

Not that you wanted my menu. But really, truly, I get it finally! I know writing it down was important, but I'm laaaaaaaaaaaazy (can you hear the whine there?). But writing it down made me loose 2 lbs this week and now I'm down 11.4 and plan to be much more deliberate about my weight loss experience. Writing it down made me stop guessing and keeping track in my head and caused me to make choices to skip dessert or to put back part of a serving of something so I could have dessert lol.

And most importantly, its not about deprivation, its all about planning. Who else is working on weight loss? It seems me and Jane are on the same Weight Watchers schedule. She lost this week too :).

Way to go! Those elephant ears were HUGE!

We have a county fair here every year and it is a MUST to get an elephant ear. They are that big here too. The line is always a mile long, but so worth it! :0)

I have begun for real exercising this last week and am down a few pounds as well! Sadly, because of a family reunion I won't be able to get back out there until next Tuesday {I cringe} and so I fear I will gain all my weight back. But, I'm going to try to watch what I eat. I'm a snacker and that's my biggest problem. Sigh. Food is just too darn good!

Congrats on your weight loss! That is awesome!

HB, wow-I had thought you didn't even read anymore. :) glad to see you're still keeping track of my posts. I guess I won't post my Ode to Al Franken tomorrow. Jk

Ash- It is SO hard to eat right around family. Just go in and plan, that is the best. Have a little of the stuff you love and the stuff you dont but have out of habit, forget. Like Potato salad with me.

Wow, that looks yummy. I haven't had one of those in years. Mmmm. I am actually drooling.

Congrats on your weight loss. That is so awesome. Writing down has really helped me stay accountable. I find too that if I am too embarassed to write something in my journal (in case my leader asks to review it) then it isn't something I should be eating. It helps me stay away from really ridiculous splurges. Keep going, you are doing great.

ohh man that elephant ear thing looks amazing (is that the same thing as a dougboy?) way to make the pregnant lady hungry! And congrats on the weight loss :)

If you want a little behind, you have to leave a little behind.

LOL...I love it. A good reminder that I don't have to clean my plate, or my husband's or my daughters. I am sure other moms know what I mean.

That is awesome! You are doing GREAT. OMG, I haven't seen an elephant ear like that since I moved away from Oregon -yummy!!! -but good for you on keeping the journal & getting back on track. Oh, and the hummus on flat-out bread sounds good. Where do you buy your hummus, and is there any brand or flavor that you recommend??

Liz- I bet baby Newt would LOVE an elephant ear! Warm, doughy goodness...drool myself.

Melanie- I buy Cedar brand original flavor hummus. Tribe's is fine too. But you can make your own hummus quite easily as well. I LOVE hummus. LOVE IT!

You rock my friend! You are motivating me to get up off my lazy vacationing butt and go to the hotel gym in the morning! I have been eating nothing but greasy food for over a week and I need a good long run and some weights!

Glad to hear you are enjoying some fun summer traditions too. I love fairs and such!
