Oh, Let's Fight This Frump!

This week two of my faves-Dr. Melissa and Rachel Lucas-each wrote about Miss England contender Chloe Marshall.

Chloe is beautiful, has a stunning smile and a gorgeous curvy body. She wears a size 16, which makes her a big fat cow according to
some in the media. They're nice that way.

This made me think about my post earlier this week where I talked about what I would do if I wasn't afraid. One of the things is that I would stop hiding behind my kid on our boat and at the beach.

While I do need to lose some weight, why do I obsess over the size I wear all. the. time? Why can't I just accept myself as I am?

Others commented to me and Sassy about having the same issue. They want to lose weight. They aren't happy with how they look. They're uncomfortable in their own skin.

I
do need to work on becoming more fit, but I don't need to be comparing myself to those skinny Olsen twins either. And neither do you.

So this week's Frump Fighting Challenge is just this: Embrace yourself right now. Right where you are.

Wear clothes that make you feel good. Who cares what size they are?

Go out with your husband or boyfriend and don't hide behind your big ol' bag. (Come on, you know you do that. )

Decide NOT to stay home because your old friends will notice you gained a few pounds this winter.

Live. Your. Life. And don't let the media, Hollywood, or anyone else make you feel "less than". Amen?

And for more Frump Fighting tips, go see Fussy. If you want to learn more about body acceptance, check out BFD.

What's that? You want to comment? Just click on the itty-bitty words below that say "Gimme Some Sugar". Can you see them? Good. We can't wait to chat with you.

Great post! It's hard to embrace our bodies as they are because of all the images we are constantly bombarded with. What really gets my goat is that many of the pictures in the magazines are airbrushed and the model or celebrity isn't even that skinny! Today I'm going to be happy in my skin. Thanks for a wonderful post!

You're right. Correctly fitting clothes, whatever the size, make all the difference.
Karla wrote about wearing transition clothes - I could open a store with all my bins of different size clothes!

AMEN! I'm on the high end of my scale right now too compared to where I've been. Although, if I think about where I've been {pregnant} I'm not doing too shabby! I gained 55 pounds with daughter. :0) I'm doing pretty good compared to that!

The media offers up such unrealistic images of women constantly! Great post!

I'd take her "girls" any day! She looks fabulous.

You're right, get out of the house and be with your friends - they probably put on a few pounds too and if you're real good to yourself you can even have a good laugh about it.

Thanks for the great post!

I have such a hard time with accepting myself as I am. right now. I want to be the same person inside as I am now, but with the same body I had when I was twenty. (I just don't want to be as stupid and ditzy like I was back then!)

Lovely post!

This might be my favorite post today!

I struggled for years, and while I still have my moments, I have FINALLY reached the point where I don't feel the need to start crazy diets, or look for the newest pill, or just generally hate my body.

It might help that my husband truly thinks I am the sexiest thing to walk the earth, and while I know that's not true, who am I to argue with the man? He's very smart - LOL!

You are oh so correct.
The outfit makes the woman and does the confidence that we put out while wearing it.
Shoulders back * Stand up tall * Be Proud and Wear that Outfit w/Class and Sass!

AMEN!

I remember reading Jennifer Weiner's Good in Bed which has a loveable "plus-size" heroine, and being really disappointed when she was ONLY a size 16.

I mean, I thought Weiner was great to have a normal woman as her protagonist, but then to make it sound as if a size 16 is just soooooo big was disappointing.

Go Miss England Contender Lady! Too bad we can't vote for her or something.

Great post! I just got finished knocking myself around this morning about just this subject. I should get healthy...not worry about my size. Thanks for putting this out there!

The live your life thing is the most important. Like those who won't swim because they look awful in a bathing suit. Hello! I look awful in a bathing suit, but by swimming I'm getting more fit. My health is more important than someone else's view. No, I wouldn't wear anything revealing, but I'll swim, darn it! ;-)

i think she looks good too. i dont get it. sure she's not a size 4, but i think that a lot of the size 4s look nasty thin. sick. so there. neener neener boo boo. way to go for bringing this to our attention!

I love this post. you are so right people need to stop feeling pressured to be 'perfect' by the media.

I am a 'below average' american but i still feel like a giant cow when i look at the media images.

GREAT post!! I'm overweight, but I'll admit that even being overweight I feel pretty and confident in my own skin. I'll take my sz 16 curves over skinny any day! :-)

Amen!! We went to Florida last month..as I was trying my shorts on to see what fit, it ALL was tight. I started to feel bad about myself, didn't want to think about taking any pics there...who wants to capture themselves "fat"? Then I got to thinking...who cares!?!?!That's what I lookied like then..I want to capture the fun time with my kids and hubby (now that doesn't mean I don't plan on dropping a few before summer). I'm thinking about joining your weight loss cheer team....

Im a 21 year old guy, and I've viewed how society treats women and their image and i gotta say, you are HOT.

I dont know where the idea of being a toothpick is attractive at all. I find it quite a turnoff.

Anyway just wanted to say women need to have curves if theyre made that way. It really rocks my boat! lol
