Let's Get Fit: It's the Swimsuit Edition, Yo.

Sassy and I live in Northern Michigan where we spend a lot of our time at the beach or on the boat. In the summer, that is. The other nine months of the year you will find us huddled in groups trying to keep warm while our nostrils grow mini icicles.

Anyway. Summer is approaching and we need new swim suits. Which we will wear in front of other people.

A few weeks ago that would have struck terror in our collective hearts. That was before we began getting fit...say it with me... from the inside out. That's what I'm talkin' about.

I know I won't achieve my ideal body in time for boating season, but this year I'm not going to let that stop me. I have a choice to make: Live Large or Stay Home. I choose living large. Honey Bunch ain't staying home this year.

I've always felt bad seeing those moms at the beach who never take off their big ol' t-shirt. Even when they go into the water. You just know their hating on the way they look and really would rather be anywhere else but there. I've never done that, but I have hidden behind my kid, kept my cover up on, or just stayed home and missed out on all the fun.

Getting Fit on the inside is giving me the confidence to not care what others think. I'm going to enjoy my family, have a great summer and find a swimsuit that rocks. the. beach. I'm going to work my thang.

Remember the beauty contestant from England we talked about a few weeks ago? She is a size 16 and we all decided she looked great because she appeared confident and dressed for her body type.

Here's a picture of her in the swimsuit competition. It may not be my first choice, but she doesn't look bad, does she? (Special thanks to my girl Dr. M for the head's up.) Girlfriend seems pretty comfortable in her own skin and and is working her shizz.

I have been searching for the perfect suit to wear this summer and there are some great ones out there. Here is the one I have decided on.

Isn't it so cute? I'm really liking the brown and I love the skirted bottom. It's not like your typical skirted bottom that can lean towards frumpy.

I also really like this one. It has a flirty scalloped edge. And it's cute.

(Is it just me or do these models look about 14?) (Why aren't they modeling for the junior department?)

And I may consider this one. Or I may just buy all three.

What are you going to do this summer, that you avoided last year?

Are you going to go biking with your kids?

Dance with your husband at your friend's wedding?

Tell us how you're going to Live Large.

Cute suits!!

Well I did not get in the pool alot last year either. I did not like how I was looking. I had been very slack on my eating and exercising, but this year hopes to be different. I just completed week one of my "Boot Camp" and I feel great. So three more weeks to go and hopefully I will be able to tell a difference. :)

OK, so I don't so much do the swimwear thing because I can barely swim and don't like water (blame the nun who taught me to "swim" by holding my head under water. Godly? I think NOT). However, this landlocked bunch is taking a trip to Disney in October, and swimwear will be necessary. Sigh. At least I have time.

Heather - I might be at Disney in October, too! **might** Cool.

I've lost 4 pounds! Yay! While that is not nearly enough for the outside, inside I feel more confident. I am going to treat myself to some new shorts for hiking. I really want some cargo style with pockets everywhere.

I've been saying, 'to heck with it' for a few years now. It is too hot here in Alabama to NOT get into the pool. I found a great suit at LL Bean. Everyone says it accentuates my 'chest' and since I don't have much of one, I like that.

Well, for one thing, I think I'm going to take a cardio hula hoop or (gulp) cardio pole dancing class. My sexual identity took a real hit after the masectomy, and I still don't feel quite comfortable in my own skin. I want to do something fun & sexy to get my mojo back!

well i'm not going the bathing suit route i can tell you that... and really? because i have no man and would prefer to find a man, and i can't do that in a bathing suit because the reflection from my BRIGHT WHITE skin would blind him... or maybe that's a good idea? i could blind him, then club, him, bring him home and make him cook and clean for me...

hmmm... i must think about this. I might have to tweak my summer plans and try to flesh this idea out a little...

why, i'm so glad i found your blog. you made me think. my whole life might have just changed from this one little blog post... :D

oh, and i'll be back... :)

I've been going backwards. I've been working from the outside in, which I'm finding helped me to be sane enough to start looking in. I wish I would have gone the first route, but I am also pleased that my body is finally responding to the year+ of running I have been doing. That made me want to start eating better foods, which made me want to put healthy things in my head as well.

Now I'm rambling, but I decided that I would celebrate by wearing a bikini this year. Problem is that all the ones I have are wild and neon. Guess you can tell the last time I wore any of those! Your post actually made me excited for the prospect of finding a new suit!

I know both of you will be rocking some hot suits and playing without a care this summer! Good job!

Such cute suits you posted. Mine has a little skirt too. It makes me feel better about walking around...knowing my fanny isn't hanging out for the world to see. Mine isn't cute like my little daughters. :0)

Very cute suits! I've seen some in the land end catalog that I like but a little out of my price range these days. So far I dropped 12 lbs and only 28 more to go.

Ok, I'm ready to change my eating habits now. I've been healthy, but no portion control really taking place.

I sucked the big one these last two days... I couldn't run at all ysterday, so sucky. I need to make a 9:30 bedtime rule on nights before running.

I'm wearing my bathing suit regardless. I'm of the thought that if you're wearing a t-shirt you're yelling really loud to people that you're insecure and are hiding your body. I'd rather just seem clueless that my body isn't beautiful. ITs all about pretending.

And the right suit.

Love the suits. Found the same type about three years ago and have been wearing them ever since. They are a God-send! Because I have red hair and am very pale, I used to hide behind my long sarong. Just this year I have started to embrace my paleness! Sometimes I don't even do my self-tanner! I'm with Sister Sassy...it's all about pretending! If you pretend to have confidence, you will eventually come to believe it.

Have a great weekend, y'all!

I JUST decided I'm joining Weight Watchers. Its gonna cost the equivelant of eating out one time, so I'll just cut that out and spend the money this way instead.

Wanna join me HB? Its an express meeting at 12 (30 min long) and not too far from where we work.

I'm excited! It's time to get better control of whta goes in my mouth. I got the exercise for the most part, if I throw in the eating I know my body will bet strong and healthier lickedy split!

WOOOT! WOOO HOOO!

I meant one time a week, eating out.

Even though I'm in a very unflattering second trimester (you know - "Is she pregnant? Or did she just eat too many cupcakes?") I WILL SWIM. They aren't going to stop me. I don't even know them.

If only those tankinis would meet in the middle (muffin top). Sigh. But I did find a nice long one at Land's End, and it's got a skirt you can put on top, too. I feel good in it. Or as good as I can get in a bathing suit.

Yes, those models are 14.

You can also join weight watchers online if you aren't near a meeting. Not nearly as motivating but their web site is very friendly and easy to use, if you're motivated, which I'm not.

I LOVE the last two :) Sadly, I look horrible in these since my top is not proportionate to my bottom :(

I hope to attempt a 2-piece bathing suit at the beach this summer... around people!

I like that - "we need new swim suits. Which we WILL wear in front of other people." I don't have any plans to be wearing a 2 piece this year but I did wear my one piece swimming in a hotel pool recently - that was a big deal to me, to wear it in public!

Have fun shopping! :)

I love the third bathing suit. LOVE IT!

I must know where you found the third suit -- because it is so cute! I'm looking for a new suit for this summer. I had my baby in June of last year, so I need a new one. Great post!

Great Post!

When we lived in Florida, we went to the beach all the time, and I refuse to stay home or stay covered up (I mean, I do try to cover my middle!) instead of getting out there and having fun with my family!

On the tankinis, I've been very happy with Land's End overstocks; you have to look longer bec. they don't have every style/size, but if you can find a long torso one, then you get better coverage on the tummy.

Also, my f-i-l swears by Sparkpeople.com, which is an online "healthy lifestyle" type support forum thingy.

Do you ever get to Mackinac Island up there? Sooo beautiful. We loved taking the ferry over and then biking around. Michigan is so gorgeous in the summer (just don't forget the bug spray!!).
